This was a little longer than I normally read but I still really enjoyed it. I did learn early on who the killer was but I found the story very well thought out. Jo has a special ability but her home life is terrible.
Back in high school for her final year, she has to see the friend she pushed away while dealing with a secret.
I won’t give away anymore but if you like a good mystery and suspense with a little romance, this is a great YA book.

Details: The Night Orchid by M.G. Hernandez published March 2021

More a contemporary fiction story than mystery
This YA book is a long but engaging read. While the blurb touts the ghostly and mystery elements of the book, the story actually focuses much more on contemporary issues and the relationships of the characters — school, family, friends, and some romance, too. The ghostly and mystery elements are there but are much smaller parts of the story than the rest. Plenty of backstory provides a great sense of who the two main characters are. Wow! This one started with a bang and kept it up the entire way through. I loved both the Jo and Julian characters. I enjoyed the paranormal aspect, which made it extra fun. This was well written and just flowed perfectly! With the mystery and investigation and character development and relationships, I highly recommend this book!
