This was a twisted one, even by Christopher Pike’s standards. Overall, I liked it more than I didn’t. It was a good use of real-life trauma as a means of framing a horror story. There were some truly gruesome and unsettling scenes, which is what I’ve come to expect from Christopher Pike. There were also a few really strong characters and a few that were confusing. My main issue stems from the book wanting to be an allegorical account on the issue of abortion but falling short of a fully coherent ...more

Yo, I don't know how I missed this one when I was a kid (I could have sworn that I read all of his books- maybe 5th to 6th grade?). This one must have been released sometime after I had moved onto reading adult horror.
Remember Me will always be my favorite but this one is batshit crazy. Cra-zy!!! When I heard about the new Pikecast Podcast I had to read Whisper of Death and then give it a listen.

Everyone in town disappears except for 5 town members who were all directly or indirectly involved in Betty Sue's death.

Whisper of Death was published in 1991 and included some heavy topics like suicide and abortion. This was surprising for it's time.

The ending was pretty messy and left behind more questions tha

This was one of the first 3 Pike books I ever read. Slumber Party was my first and then I found this one, Die Softly, and Spellbound at a discount bookstore and I was hooked! (This was back in the early 90s and I ended up buying everything Pike has ever written. It was easy to get a hold of it all back then.) Reading back through Whisper of Death my fourth time, it’s still strong and reminds me why I love Pike so much. I loved that he didn’t put kid gloves on to write to teens. He addresses seri ...more

This is one of Pike’s metaphysical sci fi ones. Well that was bleak. I didn’t see the point of this depressing book. I didn’t like the anti-abortion plot and implying a girl was asking to be raped.
