This is a hard one to review despite my constant stream of updates as I read this. I guess I had too high of an expectation on the book (what's with Magic Shop and the general hype around this book). It definitely has its high, its low and neutral (or am I just apathetic about it?)

Reading the Magic Shop is an emotional journey of finding many lessons on how one can come to terms with oneself, with little reassurance that life has much to offer despite suffering and difficult lessons it forces on us. Let's call this, the intellectual's "the secret". I was expecting a lot more neuroscience research, and a lot less of a child's memories of learning meditation. "A neurosurgeon's quest..." in the title is misleading, it could've just as easily said "an above average achiever's quest..", "a man's quest..", "a wanna-be magician's quest.." and all of them would have been just as much (as little) relevant to the contents of the book.
