"CAN YOU COME INTO MY office?"
First off, I can't say that I loved this book. I spent a bit of it detesting the main character, especially in the beginning. However, it kept my interest and I warmed up to her eventually. I also liked or loved various other characters. So I'm going to say I really enjoyed it. I even wept towards the end, which is never fun, so poop on you Taylor Jenkins Reid. I call foul. I don't like being a blubbering mess.

it's time for me to actually review this book, and although it's been a little bit since i've read it, here we go...
this book made me realize that taylor jenkins reid is one of the strongest and most talented authors out there right now. evelyn is such a complex character as you can see her flaws but you still want to root for her. i love the old hollywood aesthetic and her bisexuality being a big part in the story. i never felt very connected to monique until later in the story and BOY did that ...more

You know what I wasn't ready for? That last 25%. Dammit Reid you've done it again, it seems it's her personal mission to lure me into adoring and empathising with an entire cast of characters, simply to make everything hurt that much more. A lot of times, books that span over a long period of time are hard for me, but this one was written in such a coherent way that it didn’t matter. And, I’ll admit, the idea of one person marrying seven times in their lifetime did seem a bit far-fetched to me at first. However, the story showed there really wasn’t another way for Evelyn and all of her marriages meant different things. Overall, this was a very lovely story.

4.5 rounded up to 5⭐

"Do you understand what I'm telling you? When you're given an opportunity to change your life, be ready to do whatever it takes to make it happen. The world doesn't give things, you take things. If you learn one thing from me, it should probably be that."

Wow, this was incredible. RTC.

Overall a pretty solid and fun read. This has been in my TBR pile for a few years before I came across it a few months ago in a bookstore and bought it on a lark. The money was well-spent.
The story is framed as the MC meeting Evelyn Hugo and working with her on a biography, but the bulk of the novel is told from Evelym's POV about her life, her seven husbands, and other things. I don't know how to rate this. I've been scared to read this book because of all the hype it got at the time and I was... disappointed but also not disappointed at all?
For most of the book I thought I was going to give it 4 stars. It was great, there were multiple perfectly fleshed out characters, the idea was amazing, the writing was wonderful as always, the audiobook was perfect, everything was fantastic... but it was just a story. I honestly didn't feel like it deserved all the hype it got. Y ...more

Normally I'm not a super big fan of romance heavy book, but since I've been hearing a lot of rave reviews & I was also trying to shake things up, I decided to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo on my iPad. I ended up enjoying it quite a lot!
The characters felt very real and human to me. In particular, I found Evelyn (despite all of her glamours and missteps) very likeable. Her memoirs, which were divided by the seven husbands that she had, felt really raw and real. It's deeply emotional and ...more

i could not stop reading this... it was very very good and i cried a lot..

Someone needs to start a ‘How to be a Badass like Evelyn Hugo’ and I need to be the first person to sign up for it. Honestly I don’t know what I was expecting when I started reading the book, but finishing it, I feel enlightened. It’s so easy to judge from the outside looking in when you have no idea what a person has to go through to be successful at what they love. I mean, Evelyn hustled hard and I seriously respect her for owning up to her sexuality, her ‘sexpot’ character and whatnot.

How shallow are we, to fall for what our eyes only see. People loved her because she gave them a perception of strength, of determination, of success. Little did they know she was broken into pieces, struggling on her own. Do we hide our true colord, afraid that people won't look at us the same way? Or do we do it to convince ourselves that we can be our own heros? That we're still somewhat in control?
