What Members Thought

Mexican Gothic is a creepy horror story with characters I wasn't sure I could always trust or believe.
Noemi believes she can swoop in and save the day when she receives a strange letter from her cousin Catalina in Mexico; however, High Place is a mysterious mansion that invades Noemi's thoughts and mind, almost convincing her she's going insane. ...more

This was my first book by this author and unfortunately it wasn't for me.
I honestly don't even know what to say about this book, I was either confused or bored.
At the beginning of this book I was really liking it, the premise and Silvia Moreno-Garcia's writing were compelling and intriguing.
The mystery/ghotic atmosphere is the only part I save from this book.
It was well written and well crafted.
When the whole reveals started happening I couldn't care less about it, I just wanted this book to be ...more

I will count it as a cheating. There shouldn't be books as an snapshot of the actual books. I requested it based on the description of the book but this was utter nonsense. NetGalley must ban such acts. We're here for books not just their synopsis..

Wow! This was everything I wanted and so much more. It’s gotten a lot of love and hype, but it deserves even more.
Also, I listened to a few songs from the author-curated playlist, and that’s amazing too! ...more

I picked up this book after it was reccomended to me. I like how the book started. The writing is good and I liked the atmosphe. However, this story is just too weird for me. I prefer more realistic books. It was hard to rate this book, because it had some good parts but yet if you ask me if I like this book I would say no without a doubt. Hence only 1 star.
