What Members Thought

If you like history, science, and elements, this book is awesome. It's the history of the periodic table from a very cultural standpoint. It's not dry and boring like a chemistry textbook, nor does it drone on like a nuclear physics book. Instead, it tells the story of the who and what lead to the discovery of the elements.
In fact, it makes chemistry and history so nicely tied together that I'm going to use this as a source book for teaching. What makes it nice?

This book is about how the elements intersect with our lives and sometimes take on cultural meaning. I realized how seldom the elements can be found by themselves in nature and how unstable them often are when isolated. It kept my interest from arsenic to zinc, and was frequently amusing, particularly when the author tried following an old alchemist's recipe for isolating an element.
