I listened to this with Tyson narrating. As expected, he did a great job, although I think it was a compilation of essays that he tied together into book form. That & the limited time he allotted meant for a really high & fast overview of some incredibly complex subjects. He barely covers the solar system. I don't recall any description of Venus or why Pluto isn't considered a planet, for instance. Still, This will whet your appetite & leave plenty of questions, but it also gives some great ones ...more

*I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads*

Any book with "for People in a Hurry" in the title implies that it will be a quick or easy read. This was not either, but I understand Neil deGrasse Tyson was fitting explanations about the entire universe into a regular sized paperback book. Not easy to do. This does exactly what it says on the tin: a brief overview of the foundations of astrophysics and current ideas about the universe, in plain language. It's not Tyson's most creative or interesting work, by any stretch, but it's a good quick read (or 3.5 hour listen if you want it for background while doing chores or driving or something -- highly recommended because deGrasse Tyson's dulcet tones are always pleasant).
