Really enjoyable read!

Remember all of those awesome studies from animal behavior class, like the ones that demonstrated how many animals avoid having sex with their father, mother, sister, or brother -- chemicals inside their noses and brains help them identify "self" and "non-self", instructing them not to have sex with anything too similar to "self" -- or the studies that demonstrated how sexual selection could spell death for sexy males -- female fish preferred the most orange males, which d

Cannibalism happens throughout the animal kingdom & Schutt is a zoologist so he was on firm ground in the first third or so of the book where he discusses this. He wasn't quite as on point as he discussed it in humans, though. He delved too deeply into the famous case of the Donner party. I found it interesting, though. I've read better descriptions of cannibalism in early humans & historically, but he covered it adequately.

The final chapter was on Mad Cow disease & there I felt he really lost
