While I say that as well as fiction I read non-fiction, really I typically only read popular science, ancient history and some travel. One area that I never expected to be reading is the wannabe science of economics - but, as with politics, you might not take an interest in economics but it will take an interest in you.

I feel a bit torn about this book. I like the ideas behind it, which I'm sure I've come across elsewhere told in a more serious realistic fashion (possibly a Attenborough documentary), but there doesn't seem to be a lot in the way of real substance to it. There is also a definite utopian society feel to how it is described, especially with the references to governments taking the lead and moving away from the power and drive of big business (if only this was a real option). After reading the news that Amsterdam is going to adopt the "doughnut concept" - namely a floor to satisfy basic human needs and a ceiling concerning the environmental capacity - for its future city plan, I had high expectation learning more about the implementation in the book, but got disappointed.
