This is an excellent book about the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. Adam Higginbotham conducted a monumental research program, to obtain all the details in the book. The details are presented coherently, giving the reader an insightful understanding of the evernts. If you're looking for an in-depth non-fiction historical account of the Chernobyl disaster, this is your read. Higginbotham captures the characters, political climate, and general soviet union ambiance in his re-telling of this colossal nuclear accident. I appreciate his attention to details and timelines and for what was obviously extensive research. Here in 2020 I found myself asking the all-important question, "What did we learn?" Riveting. Fascinating. Terrifying. Adam Higginbotham does an outstanding job of bringing the Chernobyl nuclear disaster to readers. He centers the book on the individuals involved in the Chernobyl power plant and the atomic city of Pripyat where they lived, as well as the various Soviet agencies involved in nuclear research and design. And the intertwining of the Communist party in all of it. He gave me enough clear information to understand nuclear reactors—the basics and designs.
