This is how you write morally gray characters. Jude is now one of my favorite protagonists, she is everything I want from a strong, independent, yet conflicted character. Even though this story is narrated from her POV, her thoughts are not circular or repetitive. She does not bombard the reader with pointless questions that some other character will confirm for her, I’m looking at you Poppy.

i think as toxic as the book was my relationship towards it is the same. i honestly hate but also love the book? when i finished it i felt like throwing it across the room but also picking it up to hug it? am i the only one that feels this way towards it? sure everything about it was AHH had me on edge when i got to a 100 pages wanted to know exactly what’s going to happen next! and i love how Holly Black makes you fall for one character then she’s like “HA sike! you thought” i don’t know you ge ...more

Okay, this was SO good.

I've been reading a lot of Fae books lately but this one had a completely different feel to it. it's a world where Jude, a human, lives in Faerie alongside her sisters. Obviously, she has many disadvantages. She craves power, which can afford her a form of safety in this land, dangerous to mortals, that she now calls home.
