Lauren Belfer is a pro at historical fiction. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I learned some unexpected things about music, religion, and late 18th century Europe. I felt completely immersed in the life and times of Sara Itzig Levy and I was intrigued to learn about Fanny Mendelssohn. It makes me wonder which Mendelssohn wrote the pieces I played on the piano as a teen. This story is about much more than WWII and the holocaust.
