I'd really rate this a 3.5.
Our book club discussion made me appreciate this book even more. It felt too long in some parts but don't know what could have been cut; there was a lot of set up that allowed you to see how Robin would have found it difficult to follow Griffin more quickly. He had been "saved" by his father and immersed in a community at Oxford where he found a close cohort for the first time in his life.
