This book was so good!! I loved the plot and following Juliette on her journey to find freedom. I’m excited to read more about her and the side characters, and to see where the story goes ...more

This may not be a popular opinion but I really enjoyed this book. Yes there are moments that kind of drive me crazy like Juliette repeating everything 3 times. To me it seems more like an OCD kind of thing, she's not really conscious that she's doing it. More like she has to. And the strike outs really didn't bother me that much either. This girl is so messed up by the people that she has grown up with because of what she is. Basically a mutant. I've really taken this story to be like the X-Men This may not be a popular opinion but I really enjoyed this book. I've really taken this story to be like the X-Men in a new and desperate world. From the very start I've thought of Juliette like Rouge from X-Men, which growing up she was one of my favouites. Due to Juliette's lets call it condition she had been isolated from physical and really emotional contact her entire life. This included her parents. This is a part that's hard for me having children. I can't imagine having a child and not loving them no matter what. Yes there can always be times that a hard and circumstances that you wish were easier, different, but it doesn't mean you don't love them. This is what I could not get over with Juliette's parents. They could have held her as long as they were covered I know that's not perfect but they should have been able to find a way to be close to her not abuse her. The treatment of kids in this story is a hard one. Kind of shows that with the decline of the world adults will put themselves first over all. There is nothing but child abuse in this story the more I think about it. Adam is the only decent role model for his little brother so far.

Lets mention Adam, the gorgeous boy that was the closest thing that Juliette could consider a friendly person in her life. They went to the same school as children where they both witnessed the hardships the other faced. They meet again while Juliette is locked up at an asylum. Adam is thrown in her cell with her. Neither one of them lets on that they know the other. However Adam is really a soldier working for the Reestablishment that is trying to rebuild the world in a way that they believe will work. You can guess how great that is when leaders emerge telling everyone what is and must be done now. Ya not great. Their crumbling world doesn't really get better. This brings us to Warner the leader of Sector 45 for the Reestablishment.

Warner is great looking because why wouldn't he be. He is ruthless and unfeeling and he wants Juliette to be his weapon. Warner gets Juliette out of the Asylum and puts her in his compound with her own bathroom, large bed and a closet full of clothes. However there is no freedom. She is watched all the time. And she gets her own guard, yep Adam. Who even though is working as a solider of course he's going to help her.

I found Warner to be pretty interesting I think this is because I read Destroy Me (Warner's Novella) after Shatter Me and you got to see inside Warner's head. And I liked it. Not sure what this says about me I like the villain. But I can't forget so far he absolutely is the villain.

I won't give away details on what happens to me this story is like a cross between X-Men and The Hunger Games. I did enjoy it and I'll continue reading. ...more

“It’s been me and you against the world forever.”

On my re-reading tour, I have obviously picked up the first dystopian series I have ever read, once more. This book is a wonderful introduction to the dystopian world created by Mafi. The pacing is wonderful; there is no point at which the story feels monotonous. There is no unnecessary repetition of things and the writing is wonderfully unique. This was okay.. it had a slow start and dragged on a bit in the last quarter.

Warner's scenes as well as Kenji's made the book better !

The romance between Adam and Juliet became a bit annoying especially near the end when they had much more things to worry about and yet these two go makeout somewhere. Even their first encounter with the insta-love was yet another overdone YA trope. ...more
