The idea of magic as a color, octarine, is a stroke of genius, providing a very specific physical manifestation of the concept of enchantment. The nonchalant way Terry Pratchett portrays concepts like Death or Fate is one of the secrets behind the freshness of The Color of Magic. Fantasy can be a tricky genre, as it involves re-using a lot of themes and motifs. And it takes an especially acute eye to transform, for instance, the wizard trope into something that feels new to our eyes.
My only less positive critique relates to how quickly the POV changes – sometimes there is barely time to notice what has just happened before something else comes knocking at the door.
The Color of Magic seems to have survived the test of Time and hopefully, the following books in the series will be as colorful as this one.

A forma descontraída como Pratchett retrata conceitos como a Morte ou o Destino é um dos segredos por detrás da vivacidade d'A Cor da Magia. A fantasia pode ser um género complicado que envolve a reapropriação de muitos temas e motivos. E é preciso um olhar especialmente aguçado para transformar, por exemplo, o tropo do bruxo em algo que pareça novo aos nossos olhos.
A minha única crítica menos positiva prende-se com a rapidez com que o ponto de vista muda – por vezes, mal há tempo para tomar conhecimento do que acabou de acontecer antes de algo mais bater à porta.
A Cor da Magia parece ter sobrevivido ao teste do Tempo e espero que os próximos livros da série sejam tão coloridos quanto este.
