Once in a while it’s nice to read a classic and after reading the summary of The great Gatsby I expected to love this one. I didn’t though! There were endless dialogues and some characters seemed so superficial like Daisy. This I’m sure is intentional because Fitzgerald wanted to illustrate that this small group of newly rich people lost their moral compass and were only looking out for their own benefit and pleasure. incredibly brilliant. it took me forever to get into it (mostly bc of schoolwork) but it was so worth ittt. the way the narrator portrays the concept of idealization and dreams in every aspect was amazing. i highlighted so many quotes and annotated more than in any other book i've owned
