A history of England during what is, basically, it's "failed state" era, from the ending of Elizabeth's reign through the rise of William of Orange. Much is written from the perspective of foreigners commenting on the kingdom, frustrated and befuddled by its inability to act in a meaningful way.

Really did find it a slog, though I have a better sense of the Civil Wars than I did beforehand.
