What Members Thought

After reading mainly mystery, horror and gore all October, this one was a huge let down.
If anything, it's maybe a lukewarm murder mystery. The first chapter is pretty good - eerie with the moving egg timer and tension of someone else in the house. But the rest was just.....not interesting.
Although the POV bounces around, the main character is Makani. She is displaced and living with family after parent drama and school scandal. She will do anything to live under the radar. But kids start dying ...more

I did not have very high expectation when I started this book until the first murder happened pretty much right away. I am a wimp when it comes to horror movies and books and the fact I don't read or watch them. The first murder in this book was pretty creepy and being that my husband had just started a night time job and I was reading this part of the book alone I was done for the night...LOL...told you big wimp here. I waited until morning to keep reading so if it was spooky again my strong hu

I picked up this book for a challenge and it took me awhile to get into it. Once I did get vested into just reading this book I didn't want to stop reading.
Makani is the main character in this book along with her friends. Makani is originally from Hawaii and has moved in with her grandmother for a few different reasons. The main one is being something that happened in Hawaii and that she stresses over.
This book opens with an item being on her welcome mat. Makani doesn't understand why or how th ...more

3 1/2 ***
Since I have enjoyed the author's romances I thought I would give this one a read.
I liked the romance part of the book, the couple was so cute.
I loved the relationship between Makani and her grandmother.
The killing part..............not so much.
Oddly enough I was able to read this at night since most gory or scary books can only be read during daylight LOL.
the gore was ugh a bit too much for my taste.
This is why it took so long to read. I kept putting it down and coming back again and a ...more

Didn't love this, but gave it 2 instead of 1 because it was easy to listen to and though very predictable and no real twists at all, it kept my interest well enough to finish it. I listened, which is probably what kept me intestest enough to finish after a 3 week break where I wasn't able to access it. Some key things were given away way to early in the book so I just kept waiting for a twist that never came.

I really enjoyed this book. It was creepy and I liked the main characters. It kept me guessing and trying to figure out the why even after we knew the who. Having spent quite a bit of time in NE she got the small town, football loving feel perfectly. I love Stephanie Perkins writing and this one was just loads of fun.
