I didn't realize until this one ended and the Kindle put up more books by that author that this was the same writer for The Familiar, that I didn't like. I have Six of Crows to read eventually, so hopefully that one suits me more. There's a detachment with the writer and her storyline that stops me from being as absorbed into her stories, but with Ninth House at least it went better. Alex's personality is explained by her harsh life, especially the bathroom scene when she was a kid (yech), but I ...more

This book was SO SLOW. The amount of world building was important but it could probably have been done in 1/3 of the length. The story dragged and dragged and dragged. It finally got really good in the last 15% or so and now I'm rather annoyed to find that I'm invested and need to finish the series. I hope the rest of the books move a little faster. ...more
