i thought i would like this a lot better than i did, but i still found it enjoyable!
ninth house has the perfect mix of dark academia vibes and supernatural elements, but i wanted to read more romance (normally i’m fine without overwhelming romantic aspects, but the whole story i just felt like something was lacking, and after reading some reviews i know a lot of people agree that that “something” was romance. even a romance between supporting/side characters would’ve been nice) and more horror ( ...more

Ninth House has become a very divisive book in community, with people either loving it and worshipping Leigh Bardugo, or hating it and feeling the subject content is too much. Up until the last page, I didn't know how I felt about this book. There were times when I thought the pacing was too slow or I didn't fully understand the magic or what the hell was going on. Then there were times when I was glued to my Kindle and couldn't put it down.

OMG this book is phenomenal. Alex is BA and the magic system is so unique. It's unique because it was a darker view of magic and magic societies. Even when Alex has to fight against the bad she has to do bad things to do it. Some parts are hard to read about which makes you root for Alex even more. The twists were surprising also! Not normally a genre I would choose but for some reason I tried this and really enjoyed it. Twisty and strange and very much fiction/magic but fun.
