It's over?! NO!!! I want more!!!

I love this world that Kiera Cass has created. This would have received 5 stars but it was too short and felt rushed. I wish the pace had slowed down a bit. I wish that Marid bit was a bit more involved vs feeling tossed in there. But I loved how we get some character resolution from the first 3 books. And the growth of Eadlyn was such a relief. The fifth installment in The Selection series, "The Crown", was completely and totally boring to me and I only finished it because of the time I dedicated to the other books of the series and I didn't want to leave this series unfinished.

To be quite honest, I went back and forth between giving this book 2 stars instead of 1, but in the end I decided that it wasn't worth it. I wasn't the biggest fan of the original trilogy, but I enjoyed it overall. The first three books in the series aren't the The fifth installment in The Selection series, "The Crown", was completely and totally boring to me and I only finished it because of the time I dedicated to the other books of the series and I didn't want to leave this series unfinished.

To be quite honest, I went back and forth between giving this book 2 stars instead of 1, but in the end I decided that it wasn't worth it. I wasn't the biggest fan of the original trilogy, but I enjoyed it overall. The first three books in the series aren't the best out there (in the genres they belong to, of course) but they are certainly not the worst either. The fourth book, "The Heir", was mediocre but this one was a complete disaster. Eadlyn was the most annoying and spoiled character I've seen in a book in a little while. I wanted to care about her thoughts and feelings, but I just couldn't, I felt so detached from her experiences and the way she treated the world and her family. Furthermore, the plot twist and the person behind it were completely predictable and some twists and turns here and there were nothing exquisite enough in order to keep the story alive.
I also didn't bother about the love interests and even though I wanted to know who she would choose, in the end I didn't care. It seemed pointless because the relationship between Eadlyn and the boy she chose in the end (even though she once said she didn't want to fall in love at all) felt forced and only created in such a way so it could fit the purpose of the whole story. The dialogues were "dry" and unoriginal and it all felt like a choreography with all the wrong steps. I know Kiera Cass is a good writer because I really liked her writing in the first three books, but something went wrong after the fourth book. I don't know if I was biased to the conclusion of the story due to my belief that the story should have ended in "The One", but this book didn't talk to me at all.
Overall, 1 out of 5 stars. I'll certainly pick up more of Kiera Cass's books because I truly believe she is a talented writer, but this book just wasn't for me. I obviously recommend it to people who've read the previous book in the series, just because they probably need, and want to, know how the story goes on. ...more

I was so happy with how this book ended up and all the development of certain characters throughout. I don’t know what it has been about this series, but I’ve loved and flown through each book. It’s not even my usual genre but the story and writing are just so easy to read and get sucked in.
I was happy with Eadlyn’s development through the two books, along with a few of the other characters. I enjoyed how characters from the first trilogy were involved in her life and still showed up.

3.5 stars. I didn't like Eadlyn in The Heir but she was much nicer and likeable in this book. I think the Selected helped to soften and mature Eadlyn. I liked Amerika and Maxon's selection much better even though it was hot and cold, at least Amerika wasn't a spoiled brat.

I enjoyed this book more than the previous one. Eadlyn was not quite as annoying as in the previous book. It was nice to see her change and grow. She met adversity with poise and grace, as befits a queen. And I totally called her choice from the moment she met her suitors in The Heir!
