What Members Thought

Light-hearted and fun. I enjoyed the first half very much. Daphne and Simon interacted well, their dialogue was amusing and I believed their growing attraction. I lost interest a bit when we got to the duel & married life because the humour and camaraderie died off, & tedium set in. I found Lady Whistledown’s exerpts more irritating & unnecessary the longer the book continued. It was entertaining at times and easy-reading.

“There were rules among friends, commandments, really, and the most important one was Thou Shalt Not Lust After Thy Friend's Sister.”
Disappointing. I was hoping this would be sillier and more about the scandal and the paper. More about the families scurrying to get the paper and to make whatever silly things it implied seem utterly untrue. When I grabbed this, I thought it was called Bridgerton.
I found Daphne unlikable. I thought she was manipulative and conniving. I was not a fan. ...more

Trouble hero? check
Strong, witty heroine? check
I loved this story. Simon had difficulties in his childhood that leads him to decide that he will never marry or father a child. Even so he is still being hounded by marriage minded mamas.
Daphne is on the marriage mart, but most of the men seem to see her only as a friend. Well, except one very unwanted suitor.
These two devise a plan to keep the mamas away from Simon and to help Daphne become more appealing to the men looking for a bride.

The Duke and I is a book that made me laugh and cry at the same time. You can see that there is a lot of love between Daphne and Simon.
I picked up the book because I want to watch the Netflix series (I know that the probability that I will get spoiled for the next books on the series is huge, but I don't mind it. At least I will know part of the series.)
I was reading the book while listening to the audiobook through Scribd (It also has the 1.5/ the extra epilogue, but if you are reading first, ...more

3.5 stars. (Q & Buddy Read) I like the alphabetical Bridgerton family (Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth). They are close and sassy siblings.
Likes:
* Simon, Duke of Hastings...yummy
* Daphne Bridgerton was spunky and smart and loyal
* Daphne figuring out Simon's lie
* Bridgerton clan and closeness of family
* Violet Bridgerton as a force to be reckoned with
* Daphne being wise about men's feelings
* Daphne's protective brothers and how Simon thought he could take ...more
