No words....What an emotional rollercoaster.

In Yellow Wife we follow Pheby Delores Brown, a slave on the Bell Plantation. She led a somewhat privileged life for a slave until an accident caused her to be sold off to the Lapier Jail. The Jailer as he was referred to throughout the book saw Pheby as an opportunity and took her to be his wife. But life as the Jailer's wife was not the best. Such an intense and emotional story!. Though it is historical fiction it was influenced by the real life Lumpkin slave jail in Richmond, Virginia also known as “the Devil’s half acre”. It was owned and operated by a brutal man named Robert Lumpkin who was married to a mulatto woman named Mary Lumpkin. They had 5 children and when he died he left everything to her.
