So I read this back in 2013 and liked it because, you know, aliens. Cassie was sarcastic and sassy, and I liked her very much. Yet, the rest of the characters felt so.... predictable? You could find them in any other dystopian series, which doesn't excite me at all because I'm honestly tired of this genre. I don't feel like reading the sequel so I'm just gonna pass. Wow.

Just... wow.

This is definitely the best book I've read all year (and I'm counting this as a 2013 book, not a 2014 book). I don't think I've been this into a book in a while. My favorite thing about this novel is the writing. Rick Yancey is an incredible writer. There are writers that describe settings beautifully, like Laini Taylor, and then there are writers that seem to focus mainly on the thoughts of their character(s). The thing that seriously irked me about this book is the fact that the author switches Pov WITHOUT TELLING YOU IT!! Like I would be reading for a couple pages and then think wait what? This isn't cassie? Okay sammys Pov Cassies Pov bens Pov thrown in there? Uhh no! LABEL WHO'S POV IT IS!!!!

Second of all the romance... Made me want to punch Ben parish..
I like Evan he's pretty cool... BUT NO! He just had to throw in a love triangle with Ben parish!

Ok, I'm good now, no not really, but this book is amazing.

There have been four waves of alien attacks since the mother ship had been spotted. Seventeen year old Cassie Sullivan is on the run. Lost and alone, with a M16 as her best friend, she refuses to back down, in order to keep a promise to her brother. During her travels she comes across the mysterious and charming Evan Walker. Since the 4th Wave, there has been one main rule: trust no one. But Evan might be Cassie's only hope to saving her brother, and saving herself as well.

One of the most anticipated books of the year, The 5th Wave doesn't disappoint. This book stands out from all of the other aliens on earth books. While there are some similarities between The 5th Wave and the Host, let's get one fact straight: this book is incredibly better. While the plot was very enticing and kept me on the edge of my seat, my favorite part of this book was the characters.

I commend Mr. Yancey for making such complex and wonderful characters.
All of the supporting characters are very well fleshed out and are all quite kick ass. Of course there are the two boys, Evan and Ben, who both are very crush worthy indeed. While he is mysterious and slightly stalkerish, overall Evan is a teddy bear inside. He really loves Cassie and is prepared to do anything to help her save her brother. Ben could've been the iconic popular high school jock, and I think that's what he was in the beginning. But like everything else, things changed during the attack. Ben was hardened by his family, and especially his sister's deaths, and honorably protects Cassie's brother Sammy when the two are put in a training squadron together. Then there's Ringer, the girl who refuses to smile. One word to describe this chick: kick ass!!! Oh wait that's two, oh well! Part of Ben's squadron, Ringer is the best shooter and the most perceptive of the group. I loved Ringer! So awesome!

Then there's Cassie. She was a very strong heroine. I loved reading from her perspective. Even in the light of losing everything, she still kept a sense of humor which kept me laughing throughout the whole book. And boy, Yancey did a great job of writing from her perspective! She SOUNDED like a girl. On the topic of perspectives, while done very well, it would've been helpful if the narrators were distinguished at the beginning of the part. At the beginning, well the whole beginning is kind of confusing, the POV switches from Cassie's to Ben's, and I was very confused for that whole part because I thought Cassie was narrating!

There is a possible love triangle out there: does Cassie choose her savior Evan or her high school crush Ben Parish. However, I think it's a love square because Ringer and Ben for sure have a thing going on. But the romance does not take the front seat during the book. Even though it might have started a bit too quickly between Cassie and Evan, their relationship is still adorable and very strong.

I loved this book. It was awesome. I almost cried when I spilt water on this book, don't worry, no damage done! Now I have to eagerly await the next book. Do me a favor, READ THIS BOOK!!! You will not regret it.

everything was just wow
i loved how well thought out the plot was and when you got to the point where everything just clicked it was mind blowing, i recommend this to everyone
