i read this directly after my reread of the seven husbands of evelyn hugo + i highly recommend doing it that way, as all the little references to TSHOEH were fresh in my mind.
as with all the TJR books i've read so far, the writing was beautiful, the characters were fully developed, the story felt real and was all consuming, it was just so good.
i love nina with my entire heart + relate heavily to her character. i greatly enjoyed reading the story of this family + loved the form ...more

This Historical Fiction Novel takes you on a wild, captivating, heartbreaking, and wonderful ride from the 50s to the 80s and back and forth, until finally the Annual Riva Party happens and everything that’s happening live is enough to carry out the story.
There are chapters of the present- party planning, family conversations and introductions, and their close-knit relationships fully on display. I love the four siblings depiction of trust, dependency, love, and loyalty, even when they’re not. ...more
