20 Before 20* Book 4: Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
Went into this expecting a cute, funny rom-com but then it punched me in the heart and almost made me cry. I LOVED this, it combined two of my passions (queer representation and progressive politics) into a little pink brick with complex and lovable characters and some laughing-so-hard-I'm-tearing-up scenes (THE TURKEY SCENE!!!!). The nods throughout to queer history also meant a lot to me, since it's so often erased, especially wh ...more

casey mcquinston has my heart forever
reread update: there’s just so much about this book. i was laughing, then i was hardcore sobbing, then smiling again. this book is pretty much my standard for a great romance novel. if i had a sixth star, this would be the book to use it on.
third reread update: henryyyyyy

Community is among the most important aspects of my life. As a Disabled queer person, knowing that I am not alone, no matter how ostracized I may feel, is incredibly valuable. With this shared identity, I know I must remember the history of those like me – and unlike me – that created and supported my community.

”Straight people, he thinks, probably don’t spend this much time convincing themselves they’re straight.”
Welcome to the review of my comfort book!!
Though I absolutely adore the characters and think the plot & adorable fucking dialogue are phenomenal, the personal relationship that I have with this book is what makes it so special to me. You see, not only was this the first predominantly queer book I ever read, it was the book that helped me finally understand & come to terms with my bisexua ...more

The best romcom AND standalone there is. I will keep saying this until my very last breath there is no one like Casey McQuiston. I laughed, I cried, I felt honest joy and heartbreak like it was my own instead of fictional characters. They're all masterpieces. Even if the movie sucks more than my life I will keep watching and reading on repeat till the day i die. This is what ultimate comfort feels like.

I really liked how we got to see Alex find himself and come to terms with his sexuality especially when he was in the spotlight as the fsotus. I also like how we got to see the fact that although they both liked eachother in the beginning they both felt bound by their responsibilities.
But even more than that I love how they were able to overcome these feelings in the end and realise that it wasn’t a barrier to their relationship but merely a speed bump in the road, and I also liked how brave th ...more
