Starting 2023 off RIGHT!
I deliberately saved this as my first read of the year since I rang in 2020 by reading The Great Gatsby and thought maybe reading this would result in a year that is not awful. I hope it works, but even if it doesn't, it was an amazing experience. As always, Anna-Marie McLemore's writing is gorgeous and their depiction of the queer experience is tender and full of heart. It took me a while to get invested but once I did I finished it super quickly! The relationship was so sweet and tender and I was rooting for them the whole way. Their relationship was described in such a beautiful way I couldn't not love them. Even the use of visual imagery was gorgeous. The Trans and queer rep felt so natural and made me feel so at ease.
