I’m glad I listened to the suggestions to try this book out. Despite the fantasy world and all its unreal aspects, I was truly a believer and felt the realness of the dangerous game Jude started to play in the book. Cardan is a real piece of work and I say that semi-lovingly lol. Jude is a badazz, and it’s refreshing to see a fmc that’s not cowering to the powerful beings that have so much control over them (quite in contrast to her sister).

What can I say....maybe I had my hopes too high with everyone hyping it up? I didn't dislike the book but I didn't really like it, or care what was going to happen until the end. I didn't really find any of the plot to be surprising, it was pretty obvious who and what would happen mostly throughout. All things considered I will read the second book but i'm not rushing to start it immediately.

I am not sure what I was getting into when I started this book. The only fantasy I have read so far was ACOTAR and TOG.

Jude the MC a mere human in a world of Faerie begins with tragedy though she twists it to her gain.

Black goes above and beyond with building the plot and making a suspenseful story that pulls you in. Just when you think you know what is going to happen next the rug is pulled out from under you and a new twist is thrown in. I love it!!
