i’m speechless. like i don’t think i’ve been left this drained and energised and forlorn and ecstatic and just in an overall state of shock by a book in a while. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this book since i picked it up, and now that I finished book ine, I KNOW i wont be able to rest until book 2.

this book makes me want to lower the rating of every other book to 4 stars cause it’s in a class of it’s own.

Carissa Broadbent’s writing is brilliant, to say the least. Carissa Broadbent’s writing is brilliant, to say the least. My emotions were full amped up, my senses totally engaged and my heart racing for the entirety of the book. Her writing style is SO. REFRESHINGLY. GOOD.

You bet your asses im gonna go read EVERYTHING else she has written! Picking up this book randomly was probably the best decision i have made in my life because I have never ANNOTATED a book so much! And I have so many questions for book 2! And the characters are so COMPLEX omg! I cant begin to explain the way every single one felt sooooo fleshed out and so real — i just am in a state of total euphoria and eudaimonia after reading this book. And I feel like I have strings attached to every character, even the ones I hate — because all of their actions made SENSE. Even the evillest decisions were humanised, and it just added to Oraya’s journey of learning her own power in a world where people were hard to trust — because ultimately everyone has their own reason.

I’m just so glad I found this book and so glad I read this and I BEG YOU ALL TO PICK IT UP!!! NOW!!!!! IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT i swear!!!!!!

The last 50 pages I barely breathed and I still don’t know where book two will go because— yes there’s closure but it isn’t exactly… closing.

Idkkkkkk ORAYA is probably an all time favourite female MC after I read this. I just love her so so so much and for book 2, I just want her happiness even if it means the whole world burns hahahahah.

And the romance is …. Something else… something refreshingly good that doesn’t dim Oraya’s light. The romance is THERE but it never overtakes, if that makes sense? It’s a driving force for Omaya’s growth. And it’s actually a GOOD romance in a way that… idk how to explain without spoiler ahhahahah BUT YES for anyone needing the romance in a fantasy also, BELIEVE ME, just read this!!! Like I would say it is enemies to lovers, but it feels too simple to describe the absolutely intricate and beautiful relationship these two build from scratch ...more

the ending was fucking amazing but gave a looooot of FBAA vibes from book 1? the angst is immaculate tho so i’m not complaining.

Just what I needed a series to absolutely obsess over Love love love amazing storytelling, I can’t even bomb ass main character. Love the love interest. Also, her dad obsessed excited to read the next one.
