My first John Green book and I am mighty pleased with how the experience turned out for me. Definitely did not expect a YA cancer tragedy story to be funny or even possess an ounce of humor. But this oddball of a perfection had it in leaps and bounds. Green's spellbinding rich narrative is enough to make us dive into its turbulent sea of words. An experience never to be forgotten.

This book is BRILLIANT. It's funny, sad and very realistic. Though I didn't love Hazel, I did love Gus, and the blind guy, they were hilarious and they made the book so so easy to enjoy. The ending was also BRILLIANT, I loved it!!!!! I don't even know what else to say, I guess words just aren't enough to describe how much I absolutely loved this book.

So, this is a book that I have had sitting on my Ipad for a while waiting to be read , luckily ebooks don't gather dust otherwise this Have you read John Green's The Fault in Our Stars? What was your view as if you thought it was a 5 star read and an OMGher book . Then I suggest that my review might not be to your likening and may offend you in parts . So, this is a book that I have had sitting on my Ipad for a while waiting to be read , luckily ebooks don't gather dust otherwise this one would have. To be honest, I am not too sure why I took so long in reading it , was it because I'm not a huge John Green fan or maybe it was to do that it was a book about Cancer. I'm not too sure exactly what it was that took my time in reading it , but recently in a FB group that I belong to called BA which you have seen referenced in my reviews before. One of the girls there we shall call her S, had been pimping this book hard out and so I thought ok, I've got time to spare, I'm sitting on a bus with nothing to do and a lot of time on my hands so I cracked open my Ipad Bluefire App and started reading it and I did read it until the very last page and to be honest , I felt blah and disappointed at the same time as to me this was an average alright book, nothing great- no sad teary full on crying moments in which I had braced myself for. In fact, it was just another I have Cancer and I might die and I have friends with Cancer and they are sure to pass on as well , but what the hell life is short - so lets set ourselves up for disappointment and date. Another irritating thing was that they chatted about an Author in the book and they get a wish to see him, this perked me up a bit only to find out he's an alcoholic drunk and messed up man who couldn't even take time out of his precious life to be nice to his fans who had come all this way and even on top of that sick just to visit him.
So to me, The Fault in our Stars is a hit or miss read and if you do love John Green and reading about people with Cancer etc then this will be the book for you but if you are like me and have read lots of the same type of book - then I wouldn't personally waste the time.

Where to start…I feel like every gush worthy thing about The Fault in Our Stars has already been said. I think I’ve shown up late to the party and have nothing worthwhile to add to the conversation. The problem is, this novel affected me in such a way that I still want to share how I feel! Even if there isn’t an original idea in the bunch I want everyone to know I loved this story.

Hazel has cancer, she has had cancer for most of her life and despite a miracle medication she doesn’t have any ill Where to start…I feel like every gush worthy thing about The Fault in Our Stars has already been said. I think I’ve shown up late to the party and have nothing worthwhile to add to the conversation. The problem is, this novel affected me in such a way that I still want to share how I feel! Even if there isn’t an original idea in the bunch I want everyone to know I loved this story.

Hazel has cancer, she has had cancer for most of her life and despite a miracle medication she doesn’t have any illusions that she is anything but terminal. I mean, her favorite book is An Imperial Affliction and features another teen girl with cancer. It isn’t until Hazel meets Augustus Waters that her life changes.

Augustus shifts Hazel’s entire outlook on life, love, and what it means to be dying. I thought Augustus was absolutely grand. He is charismatic, positive, and he genuinely loves Hazel. He was just so hopeful throughout the entire story, he is the type of person more people should strive to be. Yeah, at times he had his faults but I can’t think of a better male lead in recent memory. Augustus truly made the story for me. Hazel was the body of the story but Augustus was the heart and soul.

The Fault in Our Stars is in the unique position of being the first audiobook I’ve actually enjoyed. I have tried getting in to audiobook’s before and I usually lose interest or feel disconnected from the story which results in bad ratings. With The Fault in Our Stars I was eager to keep listening and was actually looking for excuses to drive places so I could get a few more minutes in. The narrator was wonderful and incredibly easy to listen to. The voices she did for Hazel and Augustus were truly superb and I will definitely try and find something narrated by her again.

Overall, I probably haven’t added anything substantial to the discourse on The Fault in Our Stars with my review but I’m glad to have shared my opinion about this wonderful novel about love, loss, dying, and living.

This has been at the edge of my reading-pile for at least two or three years now, and I finally picked it up. (One of the reasons I delayed was Becky's review (https://beckysblogs.wordpress.com/201...), where she rated it...okay. This has been at the edge of my reading-pile for at least two or three years now, and I finally picked it up. I trust her judgement on books, which is why it's taken me so long. But I digress.)

The first thing I noticed when I was reading this – and I'm talking Chapter One – is that no seventeen year old in the history of the world talks like Gus and Hazel. I'm a pretty smart guy; I've know some very smart people. I have never met ANYONE who used the word univalent in a sentence. No one. People simply don't talk like this. Hazel knows what an oncogene is; she knows the word hamartia; Why then, doesn't she know the word ontological?

Green seems determined to be obscure and borderline pretentious with his language and his characters, and they suffer because of it. Their conversations are superficial, for the most part; cocktail party debate on the breakfast-only nature of scrambled eggs.

I got very little from Hazel and Gus but mostly surfaces. It felt like I rarely saw the places where they lived and dreamt. Because of it, they're as superficial as the conversations they hold, and easily forgotten.

Fortunately, the dialogue settled down after a while and approached a normal level. Green definitely has different narrative voices for Gus and Hazel, there was no trouble telling them apart. His wordplay and love of puns makes the dialogue – when it does work – sparkle and shine. Make no mistake that Green is a smart guy...but he seems intent on preening his feathers and flapping his wings to show off.

There are moments which do work wonderfully well in the book. The trip to Amsterdam was the delight of the book, the real highlight. Making Hazel's favourite author a jerk was a masterstroke: After all, you should never meet your heroes – they'll never live up to your expectations. And because Green wasn't too worried about showing off with the author, he's the most realistic character in the book.

There's a character dies in this – no spoilers as to whom – and another character goes to their funeral. I'm pretty sure...no, I'm definitively sure...that Green never went to a funeral when he was seventeen of anyone close to him. I did. And there's no way you would act the way the character did when they were there. You don't have the mental capacity, for a start. You're certainly not going to fire off witty replies to people who post on a dead characters Facebook page.

An intriguing read, but it lost its way somewhere with an author determined to show off and not let his characters do the walking and the talking.
