What I liked about this book:
- it's gay
- it has relatable characters
- it's very cute
- Julian.. that's it, just Julian
- Maritzas dogs and Yadriel's cat
- Julian's friends
- did I mention it's gay?

What I didn't like about this book:
- it seemed at first Yadriel was only trying to prove himself to others that he was enough and not analyzing why he was doing that (I did appreciate that Julian made him think about that for a sec)

A solid 4.5 stars

I went into this book with really high hopes, since I waited months to read this. It was not bad but especially the first half was kinda disappointing. I do not know if I am just dumb but I just could not find logic in everything that was happening and even when the atmosphere was fun to read about I still wished for a bit more of a plot?

Okay, but the Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas is a YA fantasy book about Yadriel who has hard time with his family. His family does not accept him being trans, so

It really hurts me to give a low rating to this book because I wanted to read it so much and had many expectations for it. Let's be clear the representation is perfect. We need books like this, with queer and poc characters. I related a lot to Yadriel about being trans and Julian is a sweet boy.

But the writing oh my gosh. I predicted the plot like at page 30 and then the book just abandoned the plot??? The villain was literally walking with a I'm The Bad Guy shirt on them. So much exposition. S

Cemetery Boys follows Yadriel as he accidentally raises the ghost of Julian when trying to prove that he is a brujo.

I loved absolutely everything about this book. Yadriel was such a lovely character and I loved following his journey and growth throughout the story. His daily battles with gender identity, his sexuality and his culture was so interesting and brought up some really engaging discussions with those around him.

His relationship with his best friend Maritza was also really enjoyable.

Honestly loved it. The only thing that bugged me was the pacing of the book. It felt very slow and dragged in at times, and then fast at rushed. Other than that tho I loved it. The trans rep is amazing, and the representation of Latina culture is just magnificent. I learned so much from reading Cemetery Boys, and was close too tears by the time J was done.
