This experience won't give you a clear understanding of all transgender folk, even the author admits that's not something he himself has. What he can give us is an unflinching account of one transgender man's passage. One hopes to happiness, or contentment, but at the very least, relief. The telling is stark, unadorned, and unflattering. There is no pandering to the reader for affection, or even acceptance. Just understanding. For me, he delivered.

This is an engrossing story of one person's journey to figure out what and who he was. The wonderful, conversational style of the writing makes it an easy and absorbing read. The author's disorientation living with gender dysphoria really comes across in his writing as he bravely shares the conflicting thoughts he entertained and the setbacks he experienced throughout his journey. I enjoyed reading this book. Tattered Edges is the story of a girl who transitions into a man. Along the way, there are many trials and tribulations. I was not familiar with female to male gender transitioning and found this book to be highly informative and a wonderful read. I found Tattered Edges easy to read and hard to put down.
