I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the author.
I recently finished the first book in this prequel series and while ambitious in scope, it had some issues that I had mentioned in my review. Now, this book, the sequel - Children of the Ocean Serpent, is so much better. The scope of the book is not as grand with the first covering a much longer period of time. This book mostly covers the early reign of Korus, the second son of Kalligus, the first King.

I recently finished the first book in this prequel series and while ambitious in scope, it had some issues that I had mentioned in my review. Now, this book, the sequel - Children of the Ocean Serpent, is so much better. The scope of the book is not as grand with the first covering a much longer period of time. This book mostly covers the early reign of Korus, the second son of Kalligus, the first King.

There is so much going on in this timeframe and we see Korus conquer and expand his empire. The character of Korus evolves too, learning as he goes until he too becomes almost as callous as his father with his treatment of certain people who I will not spoil here, but it is interesting to know that for one of the people, who let's just say, wasn't involved, it does pay back to the first chapter and a discussion this character had had.

One of the major highlights in the book is a battle that is massive in scope, upon a gigantic floating vessel. This section includes two of my favourite characters, who were introduced in the previous book. Gojj Erzang and the unlikely assassin Divackk Mo Divackk. Gojj is a character that is unhappy to be removed from his role as Sergeant in the Tryryte Tremors unit and thrust into an unfamiliar role. But he is kind and righteous and has a fatherly relationship with a young boy, which is touching in parts. Divackk is a fun character. He is so unassuming and only wants the best for his family, so he finds himself thrust into these situations, but for someone who was only a fisherman, he becomes one of the most famous assassins!

The author shows us a lot of scenes now and I think this is because the timeframe is shorter, so you get to see the characters experience these actions which adds to the tension. There are some horrific scenes too and the book is much more mature in its content than the previous book, so be aware of this. I might update my review to include more detail when the book is released.

There are still minor issues with formatting, but it doesn't seem as prevalent as in the first book. Overall, I loved it. The pace is fast and the book holds your interest. it is an exciting page turner. ...more

I read The Millenium of the Ocean Serpent last summer and now, the author has released the next book of the series, The Children of the Ocean Serpent. I liked this book better than the first one I think because the characters are better developed. There are a lot of surprises and plot twists to keep the pages turning.

Again, there are many storylines to follow, not as many as in book one, but still a lot to keep track of. I think it could stand alone, as well, but I was glad that I had read book ...more
