Gary Schmidt tells a sparse tale of Joseph's life at a foster farm after leaving a juvenile detention center. While I enjoyed reading the book, appreciating the stark language of the narrator and mostly interesting storyline, on reflection I found that I was disappointed with the characters as several were rather stereotyped and flat.
