oh Haymitch

I loved this one. I was happy to be back in this world even knowing it was going to be sad. Knowing it was going to hurt a little bit and maybe a lot.

Haymitch’s story was one that was full of twists and turns. Full of times when you loved him and questioned him. He’s always been that complicated character we all loved from the series.

I’m glad I read this and was back in this world. Think I’ll take a journey back through Panam with the others soon as well.

Initial thoughts:

Wow!

My heart feels broken but full all at once. Haymitch’s character has intrigued me for so long. What could have happened to get one man into such a depressive, self-destructive state. Collins does a magnificent job of telling his story and bringing closure to Haymitch’s journey.

And that epilogue! Gah! 😫😭

This book = EMOTIONAL DAMAGE, while simultaneously stoking the fires of my rage against fascist and authoritarian forms of government. This backstory explains so much about Haymitch. Easy 5 stars.
