This is was difficult book to get through but an important one. I chose this read as part of my Read the World series for Belarus. Alexievich collects stories from now adults about their memories of WW2 through their perspective as children growing up in the area of now Belarus, Russia, and the Ukraine as the Germans invaded. Each story is only a couple of pages but so heartbreaking I could only read a couple at a time.
