Shen: McLemore does a lot of interesting twists and takes on the themes that make the original story such a classic. While some of these fell flat for me, most of it worked. The ways race, sexuality, and gender came into play to create a fresh but respectful lens on these iconic characters was great and very thoughtful. Definitely read it with a grain of salt since this is a much more optimistic and less tragic version of the original story, but I still really enjoyed it.
