Shen: I did only give this book 3 stars, but I feel like other people on the server would like it more, especially those interested in true crime and in stories that focus on the victims, not the perpetrators. The first half is very compelling and I loved 2/3 of the perspectives we're given.
I also think Knoll captures the horror of a serial killer and how a victim's life is upended in one day/night by something that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. It's not exploitative though and I admire the restraint Knoll has.
Overall, Bright Young Women demystifies the idea of the charismatic serial killer and while it's a bit repetitive, it succeeds in what it sets out to do, which is to focus on the women and girls affected by this kind of tragedy.
