Shen: This is a short book that I definitely have to reread, and I'd love to know other people's thoughts on it because Winterson packs so much into these pages. It's weird and uncomfortable at times, made me go "what in the..." at points, but that just made it all the more memorable to me.
In this retelling of Atlas and Heracles, Winterson destroys the pedestals we put heroes and gods on and somehow makes Atlas feel incredibly human and tragic. I read this in one sitting and was just mesmerized by the way Winterson paralleled both figures and used them to explore the burden of living and free will vs fate.
