After all the hype, I was a bit skeptical thinking I would not like it, but I'm glad I was wrong. I liked everything, the way the story was told, the characters, the plot, the timeline, and the criticism. The characters are flawed, but you still like and care about them. I don't even know where to start. This was undeniably a great book, however it wasn't spectacular. I loved the writing style, the fast pacing of the book and the complex characters that sometimes made me root for them, hate them, love them. It is a heartbreaking story about love and the sacrifices we are, as people, willing to make for the ones we love. It also presented beautifully the different types of relationships and how often they can be misleading and misunderstood.

EDIT: Conflicted because I SO wanted to love this book, but only really kind of liked it (not enough to love it). I loved Evelyn and Harry’s undying friendship the most and liked how some of the characters were really layered and complex (I both loved and really disliked Evelyn and Celia as characters), but it still just felt like the story was missing something?? I’m not sure what, but somehow the big reveal at the end and the events after that didn’t shock me, even if I wasn’t entirely expecti ...more

Se merece totalmente las 5 estrellas. Al principio no estaba muy segura de empezar a leerlo, ya que la reseña del libro no me llamaba, pero había visto a tantas personas hablar bien de él que cuando encontré por casualidad una oferta del libro me lo compré en inglés. Me dio un poco pereza que estuviera en inglés pero decidí empezar con él, y una vez que empecé no pude parar. El personaje de Evelyn Hugo me parece uno de los personajes mejores construidos que he leído en mi vida. No siempre he est Se merece totalmente las 5 estrellas. Me dio un poco pereza que estuviera en inglés pero decidí empezar con él, y una vez que empecé no pude parar. El personaje de Evelyn Hugo me parece uno de los personajes mejores construidos que he leído en mi vida. No siempre he estado de acuerdo con sus decisiones, pero entiendes por que lo hace. A Evelyn solo se la puede amara y odiar al mismo tiempo, aunque yo me decantaría más por amar. Además, en el libro vemos en todo momento a una Evelyn humana y no un ídolo que es lo que ella quería. Me encantó su determinación por conseguir todo lo que quería y por seguir adelante a pesar de todos los obstáculos a los que se tuvo que enfrentar. Me gustó mucho la relación que tuvo con su hija, sobre todo a partir de que se mudaron a España.
Me da un poco de pena no haber conocido más a fondo a Monique, pero en parte considero que s algo que la autora quería que fuese así, ya que la misma Monique dice que no se conoce así misma, ¿entonces como un lector va a conocerla a fondo? Me hubiera gustado saber si al final Monique le cuenta a su madre la verdad sobre su padre, y espero que así fuera. Respecto a sus maridos la relación que más me gustó con diferencia fue la que tuvo con Harry Cameron, tanto la relación entre ellos como la personalidad de Harry me encantaron. Es por esto que me dio tanta pena la forma en que acabó Harry. También me gustó su matrimonio con Rex North, creo que esto es porque por primera vez vemos como un hombre, que no sea Harry, la respeta y trata bien.
La relación que unía a Evelyn y Monique, y que me mantuvo en vela y ansiosa, no me lo esperaba venir y eso fue lo que me encantó, que era algo que no me esperaba.
En resumen es un libro que me ha encantado y que me ha marcado en gran medida. Siendo sincera no he llegado a llorar con él, pero por poco. Me alegró de finalmente haberle dado una oportunidad a este libro. ...more

What a story! So much love, lies, heartbreak, it was a roller coaster of emotions but a beautifully told story. I did not see the surprise at the end coming but it was still perfect.
