“Snow lands on top.”
A prequel to The Hunger Games trilogy that provides a look into Panem’s intriguing history and delves into the character of a young Coriolanus Snow.
It took me a long time to decide how to articulate my thoughts on this book. I think if you go into this book looking for something like the trilogy, you’ll feel let down. It’s not as action-packed and is slower-paced. It is just as thought-provoking, though. Personally, I found the dramatic irony a little heavy-handed at times b ...more

i shouldnt have read this book immediately after watching the movie. at times i found it boring but good boring and i could also see how GOOD the movie adaptation was.
it was GENIUS how suzanne intertwined lucy gray’s backstory with katniss’s. it makes you understand why snow hated katniss so much, since everything reminded him of lucy; therefore, his weaknesses as well. at the end of the book he was determined to never care about anyone ever again, to never love, to be ruthless without feeling ...more

This book follows Coriolanus Snow during the 10th Hunger Games. He is a mentor to Lucy Gray as she competes against 23 other people.
This book was surprisingly good. Of course, when you read The Hunger Games trilogy you develop a loathing for President Snow and everything that he stands for. It was very interesting to see what the inside of his mind was like.

I’ve heard a lot of stuff about how people didn’t like this book and how it was slow. Personally, I don’t think it’s as bad as people were saying it was but that’s just my opinion. I do think after the games ended there was a good chunk of the book left and I was kinda confused because there was so much. But I also think that at least part of it was necessary to tie up loose ends (I do think that part could have been shorter though).

This book almost made me like Snow until the end. I knew he would go back to The Capitol, but the fact that his rise to power was connected to the death of his friend, corruption in the 10th games, and losing someone who loved him. Power was always more important to him; it outranked love, trust, and even friendship. Suzanne Collins did really well at making him a likable character despite his ending.
I loved how you know the origin of the Hanging Tree. It must have destroyed Snow to hear Katnis ...more
