What could I say about this book? It was amazing, that's about it without spoilers. I've always loved crime stories, TV-shows with homicide investigations, those are my favourites. However, I've never read a book about it or not that I remember, and I have no idea why. This is my jam! Keep in mind, I never find out the plot twists in advance when it comes to books, I have a natural talent at being ignorant. But, I think it's good. Being surprised is wonderful, why would you want to read a book w

I'm not a huge fan of mysteries, but Agatha Christie could be the exception for me. I can't believe this was her first novel! So clever and twisty. Like a snake eating its own tail. Loved it.

Audio book narrated by Penelope Delaporta

This is Agatha Christie’s debut mystery, in which she introduces the famous Hercule Poirot. It’s a traditional “locked room” mystery.
Mrs. Inglethorpe is stricken in the early morning hours with horrific convulsions, clearly the result of strychnine poisoning. But who poisoned her and how was it done. She was alone in her room with all three doors leading into the room bolted from the inside.

Agatha Christie really was exceptional when it came to writing crime and it was good to remember as I was reading this that it was one of the first. Although much of it seemed predictable and many of the scenes were now familiar, at the time of writing it would have been a revelation. It was good to go right back to the beginning of Hercule Poirot. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the mystery and enjoyed how Poirot worked it all out. Hastings, the narrator, was an absolute idiot though and it

Boy, this was convoluted! I kinda started this series in a weird way but I like the first book I read (Murder on the Orient Express), so I decided to try more of the series. Since this was the first book in the series, it seemed like a logical place to start.
Poirot's methods are great. I love watching his mind work. I always think I have things figured out, then he just proves me wrong. And just when I think I'm following the path he's trying to lead me down, he changes course and I'm all confus ...more

The first of Christie's Hercule Poirot novels, I was still fairly impressed with her mystery skill. Christie is without a doubt the master of misdirection and red herrings. I didn't love this as much as some of her other reads, but I still have to admit that she did a magnificent job keeping me guessing (and heavily doubting myself during the portions I did have the right culprit) until the end.

I enjoyed this book immensely. I can't believe how much I liked it. When you think you've solved it, and find out you were wrong all along. The main character was interesting to me and made me keep wanting to read.
