4.5 stars

Enjoyable coming of age story following a little Anglo American girl who runs away and befriends a young African American woman. The author does not shy away from depicting the Jim Crowe era South as it was in the early 1960’s. Overall a well crafted story about what it means to be friends and family.

Enjoyed this book, though quite different from most of the reading I have been doing of late. So many great sayings throughout the book. Made me laugh at times but also made me stop and think how much times have changed but also how much further we still have to go for pure equality.
