Summerset wins the "too stupid to live" prize for this installment in the Eve & Roarke Saga. Yet another incredibly clever antagonist - they're all endowed with endless money, time & brains - but not too clever for our heroes, & all mad as hatters, of course. I've read a couple of the later books so it was nice to see the entrance of McNabb who is a bit of a cheeky sod.

I like seeing Eve being forced to face one of her prejudices but I don't suppose it will make her a nicer character. She's a gre ...more

#6 in the In Death series

10/9/22 to 10/15/22 - 5 stars - Just as good this time as it was a few years ago when I first listened to it. Yes, the killings were pretty horrific, but it was the first couple that were awful, then the descriptions weren't quite as graphic. As the details start to emerge, Dallas realizes that the deaths seem to be connected to Roarke's past regarding Summerset and Marlena. Hitting Roarke where it hurts the most (playing games with Eve and setting up Summerset to take t #6 in the In Death series

10/9/22 to 10/15/22 - 5 stars - Just as good this time as it was a few years ago when I first listened to it. Yes, the killings were pretty horrific, but it was the first couple that were awful, then the descriptions weren't quite as graphic. As the details start to emerge, Dallas realizes that the deaths seem to be connected to Roarke's past regarding Summerset and Marlena. Hitting Roarke where it hurts the most (playing games with Eve and setting up Summerset to take the fall) is making it especially personal for Dallas. Peabody continues to grow more comfortable as Dallas's aide. And we finally meet McNab for the first time while Feeney's on vacation. McNab is a little wacked (as are most of the e-geeks), but he's an electronics whiz, and he helps considerably with the complex e- aspect of the murders. He has an attraction to Peabody, but she takes an immediate dislike to him. Funny, when we know what eventually happens with their relationship. There's also still a strong mutual dislike between Summerset and Dallas, so there's a lot of tension as she is forced to protect him and keep him out of jail despite the circumstantial evidence piling up against him. We also have a brief introduction to Detective Baxter, but mostly peripherally. All in all, an exciting listen, narrated wonderfully by Susan Ericksen. I look forward to continuing sooner rather than later.

12/23/15 to 12/31/15 - 5 stars - Another excellent excerpt from the story of Eve and Roarke narrated by Susan Ericksen (who is totally amazing with these voices). This time we focus on Roarke (yay!) whose past is coming back to haunt him. A killer has contacted Eve with a riddle and talk of vengeance for a past wrong. Each person he kills is hacked up in a particularly gruesome way (which was a bit too graphic for my taste, but not completely over the top). Each person is connected to Roarke's and Summerset's youthful lives in Ireland. They work on the case together, with the help of techno-whiz Ian McNab (a member of the police's EED department) while Feeney is on vacation. A visit to Ireland is interesting, as is the competition between Eve and the killer as each tries to outwit the other. Excellent secondary characters of Peabody, McNab, Chief Tibble, and Commander Whitney, as always. McNab is going to be a fun addition, especially since there's such dislike and tension between him and Peabody. Lots of action with this one. Can't wait to read on... ...more

This one was a hard one to listen to. It was horrible how people can get so distorted. But the case was awesome and I loved how much Dallas wanted to protect Somerset because of how important he is to Roarke.

Oh and we get introduced to McNabb in this one! What fun. He and Peabody sniping at each other. If they only knew, right...

And of course the narration was wonderful. I'm really enjoying go back through this series again! ...more
