In Plainsong, Kent Haruf has written a beautiful book about a small town community and the life you find there. In prose as spare as the scenery of Holt, Colorado he gives us a picture of loneliness, desolation, family, love and the ordinary, everyday interaction both good and bad that goes on in any community but looms large in a small one. Everyone knows what's going on and sometimes everyone has a hand in it.
