This was a hugely popular book in our Popsugar challenge group last year. I've been really looking forward to reading it, and I so desperately wanted to love it. And ... I just didn't.
It might sound odd, given that the Harry Potter books are amongst my favourites in the whole world, and I absolutely love the writing of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, but I'm actually not the hugest fan of fantasy. It's difficult to describe this book, bearing in mind that I rarely read fantasy, but it is kind of Game of Thrones fused with Harry Potter for adults. Frankly, whatever it is, I thought it was fantastic. I was so drawn into the world, and Kvothe's story, that I would find myself looking up surprised that I was actually in the real world. I am finally going back and working on some older reviews.
This book was a fantasy thriller. The reviews were mixed, and I found myself wandering off more times than I could count. I just couldn't get immersed in this book, and this in no way is a reflection of the author. I don't think that I will continue with the series. ...more
