This is a breathtakingly beautiful novel. Set in South Africa just as the apartheid regime is being put in place, it is a story of two fathers who lose their sons, and the tragic tension between black and white. I had tears in my eyes at several points, but contrary to my belief that this would be a depressing read, in fact it was incredibly uplifting. I could easily sit back down straight away and read it again.
