Only Okay cozy mystery with recipes. The plotting is weak. I find it repetitive. There's little sexual tension. Weak character development. Still, I think it's worth trying one more in the series before giving up. (NOTE - I have,in fact, read a few more and they do get better.) ...more

This is an enjoyable cozy mystery about a cookie store owner (apparently in Minnesota there are a lot of people who stop in every day and eat cookies for breakfast) who investigates a double murder on behalf of her brother-in-law the sheriff's deputy who is trying to make detective. The whole premise seemed a little screwy--first of all, why would Bill allow her to "help" as much as he did with the investigation, putting herself in "situations" with no supervision. And if he's going for a promot ...more

I've seen the colorful and tasty covers of the Hannah Swenson mystery series by Joanne Fluke over the years so while looking for a book to fulfill a reading challenge I thought this was just the time to check it out. I have to say the first book was quite amusing and I enjoyed it much more than I expected.

Hannah Swenson, the owner of a popular bakery called The Cookie Jar, is also a proficient amateur sleuth. When Ron LaSalle, delivery man for the Cozy Cow Dairy is killed behind her shop, she is

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder - Joanne Fluke

Cute Cozy!

I thought this was cute. I liked that the heroine liked herself as she was. She wasn't perfect and she didn't have a husband or kid but she was good doing her.

We'll see what happens now the potential love interest came to town.

I was screaming at her the whole time leading up to the murderer reveal. I don't know how she didn't see that coming from a mile away. But it all worked out in the end (of course).

I'm looking forward to try

Art (aka Whistler Reads)
With an unrelenting commitment to her friends and associates (and unremitting impatience and sheer nosiness), Hannah Swensen leads them like a madcap pinball, ricocheting thru well defined environs into 'sketchy' situations to ultimately solve the mystery.
All characters receive at least some development, with the 'mains' fully fleshed out.
I especially appreciated how Hannah is revealed through her bakery, and her recipes complete with directions.
I'll admit to having already read the 2nd book in

I've had a physical copy of this book on my shelf for many years, but I decided to check an audiobook copy out from my library. I was not a huge fan of the narrator, but it was not a make or break for the book. I like Hannah's character. And can't wait to see how her two dates go :) Cozy mysteries are not my normal go-to, but I do enjoy them every once in a while, and I do think I want to read further with this series. Definitely looking forward to that. I enjoyed this one. ...more

Reading this book must have killed too many of my brain cells to write anything remotely comprehensive right now.
A boring book, full of clichés.
