I liked Katy and I found Daemon to be a jerk. Typical Girl likes Guy, Guy's an ass, Guy finally smartens up and proves his love, Happily Ever After. Only this time Katy says screw you and by the end of the book Daemon is realizing his folly. I find it funny how the name of the Alien race is a Latin term.
Second time reading this book, I listened to the audio book and I think I liked it more this time around. I still agree with my first assessment but I'm ready to read the next in the series. ...more

Actually 3.5 stars
After her father's death, Katy and her mom move to West Virginia. Things are doing pretty good, and she's even made a friend with neighbor Dee. But there are a lot of strange things going on in their little town -- Dee, her brother Daemon, and their friends are actually aliens, and they're not allowed to have anything to do with humans. But Daemon and Katy have feelings for each other, and they may be stronger than the forces that keep them apart.

I gave this 4.5 stars and rounded to 4.
I normally don’t read science fiction, especially when it involves aliens. However, this book was recommended to me last year, and it did have sort of an appeal to it. I am surprised to say that I actually liked it and have now purchased book 2 on my Kindle. Take Twilight and add an alien element and you have Obsidian. This book is refreshing and will give you a whole new outlook on sci-fi.

Sadly, I think I'm over snarky, sarcastic, angsty teen heroines. I don't think my dislike of Katy in this book was quite as much as my dislike of Alex in the Covenant series, but there were times it was close. What a shame! The idea behind this book was fantastic - I just loved the concept of beings of light and I thought Demon was great, albeit a bit predictable. But ugh (this is where the inevitable "eye roll" goes in), why do these teen heroines have to be so idiotic at times? When the book s

Wow, it was the most sizzling hot YA book I've ever read! I mean that literally, it sizzles right out the page and stung me!!
It started with a Twilight-ness similarity; a gorgeous girl moving to a small town due to some family circumstances in her final year of highschool but that's where it stops. And that gorgeous boy next door? He is NOT 'the boy next door' gorgeous, he is BAD BOY HOTNESS!!
I managed to discipline myself and only started reading on a new day, yep, first thing in the morning on ...more

Well...
Characters are angsty ... but it is YA
Science is WEAK ... but it is YA
Environs are well-described and believable ... Good author
This book was on a "book boyfriend" list, and he eventually ends up as quite nearly perfect. Eventually.
The story moves right along, with a lot of hidden dangers and pitfalls. There are minimal grammar or formatting type errors, and that makes it pretty readable except when your eyes are rolling at the outrageous science fantasy/fiction.

I actually listened to this on audio book, and once I got used to the narrator's voice, it was fun to just sit back and have someone read me the story. (my hubby refuses to read to me...even if I am too sick to read a physical book) :p
I think I will probably listen to the rest of the series on audio too.
As for the story itself, well let's just say I am a huge fan of the show Roswell, and this gave me the same vibe. Nothing too serious, crazy teenage drama, cheesy dialogue at times, but exactly ...more

This was an interesting book. It is also a YA type book. This book consisted of super natural alien beings called lex which in their language means light. Young adults are present in this book and normally teen behavior is seen in this book. it was a fun light read and I would recommend this book to anyone that like s short fast stories.
