Michelle McNamara spent years looking at evidence to uncover a rapist and murderer active in the 1970s and 1980s in California. She worked with police, other true crime obsessives, victims, and others to collect and sift through the massive amount of evidence available. The suspect was originally called the East Area Rapist. As DNA technology improved the EAR was tied to rapes and murders in southern California. Michelle named him the Golden State Killer.

I did the audio book version of the book and may have cheated myself out of giving another star - it was well read but the book seemed to be scattered. Understandably a lot of the book was pieced together by another team after Michelle's untimely death but editor's notes will tell you when. I also think/hope the print version may have timelines, pictures, case file copies etc. that would have helped piece it together better.
